though we asked for just a letter,
from you, we had expected better
we want words
that will make our minds drift
and our hearts blink
but please, not words
from a printer’s ink
jab tak haathoon mein hai jaan,
un haathoon se likh meri jaan
lafz jo dum se likhe ho
tere khalam se likhe ho.
(p.s. we’re not asking for
a song or a tune,
but now you must scent
the letter with perfume)

It felt nice reading those lines, but on a side note: your Urdu handwriting is poor. Sorry, but had to mention it..
Posted 04 Jul 2008 at 10:21 am ¶oh no, no sorries needed. my urdu writing is awful.
this was actually the first time i’ve really written urdu in over a decade.
this is really a start, more than anything.
Posted 04 Jul 2008 at 12:10 pm ¶upon further observation, i have realized that my english writing is also poor.
Posted 04 Jul 2008 at 8:12 pm ¶for a first-timer, your urdu writing is pretty neat — well-spaced letters, clear nuktas, and concise “hai”s and “ye”s which, really, aren’t that beginner-friendly. so, there: good job, adnanali (:
write more urdu and post up!
Posted 04 Jul 2008 at 10:36 pm ¶also: whoever got this letter is one lucky soul (:
thanks zb, you are too kind. but have you seen the “se”s… each one looks different. my hand was literally shaking every time i wrote that word… i thought for a moment i should redo it. meh… this is also the first letter i have /written/ in a very long time. lord only knows when the last time was…
also, taking from the last xkcd comic… if you read the last two words of each line, it’s interesting:
hai jaan
Posted 04 Jul 2008 at 11:03 pm ¶meri jaan
likhe ho
likhe ho
